Treatment for HPV-related Cervical Cells -- Laser v. other meansFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netWed, 10 Jul 2002 11:36:32 -0500 (CDT)
I am going in for a cone biopsy. I have had a leep, and I still have high-grade cells on the cervix. My diagnosis is somewhat different in that I have Atypical Glandular Cells of Undetermined Significance (AGUS) v. the squamous cell abnormality. I have 2 questions: 1. I am going to be getting a scalpel biopsy cause the Dr. wants to have the tissue to test. She says that this is just as effective as laser. I'm just wondering if there is any information on laser effectiveness v. cold scalpel? as some folks I have spoken with who had cervical cancer found laser the most effective treatment. Any help is greatly appreciated. 2. If it does not completely eradicate the cells, can I then do laser, or is the only next step hysterectomy?
