Hypothalamic HypogonadismFrom: Em (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 9 Jul 2002 21:22:33 -0500 (CDT)
I am 29 years old, 5'3 and weigh between 108-110. I stopped taking BCP in April 2002 after being on them for 7 years because my husband and I want to start a family. After 2 months of no period, I went to my OB/GYN. He gave me Norethindrone to make me bleed but it didn't work. I went in for more blood tests and was told that my estrogen level is low (but not dangerously low)indicating that I have Hypothalamic Hypogonadism. He referred me to an RE but I'm hoping someone can offer some information while I wait for my appointment. My questions are: What exactly does Hypothalamic Hypogonadism mean? Is this condition a result of my being on BCP? Is this a reversible condition? Will it reverse on its own or will medication be required to conceive? What are the treatments commonly associated with this type of condition? Thanks for your help. I truly appreciate it.
