breastfeeding and low blood sugarFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 9 Jul 2002 10:21:43 -0500 (CDT)
I am 8 months post-partum. Recently went to the doctor complaining of weight loss (12 pounds below pre-pg weight which leaves me a little underweight), fatigue, insomnia, irritability and anxiety (almost to the point of thinking I had post partum depression). Did a lot of blood work. CBC showed no abnormalities. My iron was a little low. Thyroid fine. But my blood sugar only 1-1/2 hours after a balanced breakfast was 45! This number seems pretty low. Should it be rechecked? I've never had problems with low blood sugar before (though I was a little high in pregnancy), but if this is a regular occurence, it would explain why I feel the way I do. I already eat a moderately low carb diet (nothing excessive--just my gd diet modified) so I'm not sure what to do about this on a dietary level. I'm still nursing and wondered if that might be causing my blood sugar to drop so much. Thanks.
