Frequent throat clearing is often due to post nasal drip. Have you had a cold recently? Antihistimines are used for post nasal drip- see an allergy or sinus specialist. A good family physician should be able to diagnose and treat post nasal drip, however in my experience an allergist is better if the problem is prolonged. Hope this helps.
