Re: Needing medical treatment but to terrified to seekFrom: Robin (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 7 Jul 2002 16:55:25 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Maria, You don't mention the problem that is sending you to an OBGYN, but whatever it is, I hope they can find a solution. What is it about the exam that is so terrifying to you? Has there been abuse to you in the past? If so, you might want to try some counseling to get to the root of the problem. Here is something you could try first. Go see the OBGYN, and just sit and talk with him/her about the problem you are having. Get comfortable just talking with the person (remember, they are people too!). You can then make another appointment with the Dr. for the exam. Take a close friend or family member with you to the exam. Try taking deep, yet slow breaths during the exam to relax. Good luck to you!
