Mononucleosis and STD'sFrom: Rose (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 6 Jul 2002 19:29:09 -0500 (CDT)
I had the unfortunate luck to contract 2 STD's and mononucleosis in the same year. I may have had both HSV and HPV prior to the mono and didn't know it, but they sure showed up when my immune system's butt was getting kicked about by the mono. So, I ended up having an abnormal pap (hpv) and oubreaks of HSV on almost a weekly basis - causing me to have to begin the expensive process of daily anti-viral meds. That was about three months ago. My question is, are chances good that after the mono clears up (and I've heard everything from months to a year on that) that I will be able to stop daily suppressive for HSV and hope for normal paps? Would it be safe to get my hopes up that my immune system will be able to hold off the viruses now? Or have I simply discovered that I'm a particularly unfortunate case? Please help. I'm terribly stressed - making the problem that much worse. Thanks.
