Uterus- 20 week pregnancy size. They gave me an injection of lupron once a month for 3 months to help shrink the uterus in preparation for ablation, myolysis and ablation to try to conserve my uterus. I was told he could do a vaginal hyster, but if he tried to do the surgery to save the uterus, he may have to do a hysterectomy with an abdominal incision. I opted to go with ablation, etc.- it did turn into an abdominal hysterectomy, but I saved an ovary( had my own hormones until shutting down 2 yrs. later) and kept the cervix. I was glad not to be bleeding all the time. I was told a few years before my hyster to have this done and I was stubborn and kept thinking about getting to menopause. I would have been smarter to have it done earlier. You might want hormone replacement if you do go through menopause. I sure knew I wanted it. I believe estrogen will grow those fibroids again if not removed. I hope this helps you with your decision process and I wish you the best of luck! I know each of us is different- just giving you my experience. Surgery was not bad at all for me. Anne
