Uterine Tumor and the Pill

In August, I will have a myomectomy to remove a cantalope size uterine tumor. I'm 35 and have been on the pill for two years. My doctor found the tumor about six months after I started on the pill. It was the size of a walnut and "normal and harmless". I thought it must be related to the pill so I went off the pill. About six months later, my doctor could not find the tumor. Out of convenience, I went back on the pill and now a year later, the tumor is back and the size of a cantalope. Could the pill have effected the tumor's growth? If I go off the pill now, might the tumor reduce in size before my surgery?
