Hello,

The ages vary depending on when your mother entered menopause, but late 30's, early to mid 40's seems to be average. Seems to be where I am right now, cycles are wacko, but not so much mood swings or hot flashes. I think at first you can expect cycles to become irregular. But that could be a lot of things and happens to a lot of women who are no where near peri. Blood work will be of little use though, things are still in flux. The tests are more useful as the ovaries become less responsive to FSH, causing it to rise significantly. Here's a great website that has tons of info:
