Coronary spasm during pregnancyFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netThu, 20 Jun 2002 01:06:46 EDT
When I was 25 and pregnant with my son, I had a coronary spasm. It happened 24 days before he was born. I was already in the hospital because I'd had an asthma attack a few days before. I was aggressively treated with steroids (piggy back). I have to wonder, could the steroids have caused the coronary spasm? When I went into labor, I was made to endure 72 hours of labor, I had dilated to a 10 with a rim, before a decision on how to deliver my son was made. He was delivered by vacuum and forceps and when he was born, he wasn't breathing or reacting. He was immediately put in the N.I.C.U, where he spent 1 1/2 days. Although I know that this isn't common among most women, again I have to ask, could the steroids have contributed to the spasm since I haven't had another one since. I've even stopped seeing my Cardiologist because I feel that the steroids were the only reason for the spasm. Is there an answer to this dilemma that has plagued me for the past 10 years. I did have another son 18 months after the first one. And in his case, he was induced because it was found that I had protein in my urine. I've since had my tubes cut and cauterized to prevent further pregnancies. thank you, Dalia J.
