Hi Lyn,

I had this too after my laparoscopy. My ob-gyn said it's a skin infection and is actually quite common. It forms a little cyst like swelling that drains and it can recur...mine did several times then disappeared.

It's best to call your doctor's on-call and ask for specific instructions, but what I did was clean mine off with some hydrogen peroxide and soothe with warm compresses, then keep it covered loosely until I could get to the doctors. Don't further medicate it without talking with your doctor first. Change the dressing a couple times a day if you continue to have secretions, so it won't stay moist.

If the drainage gets heavier, pain gets worse, you have a fever (do take your temp - I had one and didn't even realize it), or if you feel otherwise unwell, call your doctor's on-call right away or go to your urgent care facility or emergency room. Usually these infections are mild and don't result in complications, but each person experiences infections differently so it's better to be safe than sorry. Treatment usually involves draining and cleaning up the cyst, and antibiotics if necessary.

Take care!

Kas
