I started when I went to loo and afterwards I wiped blood, I was 14. Lucky it wasn't in the middle of the night or at school. Had to be off swimming the next day, which was embarrassing as I had to own up to the teacher. Nowadays, if one doesn't get any warning twidges or pain, which I usually do get, where I am prepared, then yes, it can take you by surprise sometimes and you find you have a made a frightful mess on the bedsheets in the night, woken by the pains, ususally at 6 am, when I have to deal with it, half asleep. Not much fun! Nowadays I take a more casual attitude, but not to the pain. If the pains are bad and incapacitate me, I panic a bit. The pains are the best warning to get prepared, your body is telling you to get ready. My tummy blows up like I'm pregnant. I know!
