Hyperthyroid or Post-Partum?

I am seven months post-partum. My symptoms are as follows: weight loss despite increased appetite and lack of exercise (I am 5'3", 108 pounds--12 pounds under my pre-pregnancy weight), hair loss, insomnia and fatigue. I have not, however, experienced heart palpitations and the absence of that symptom leads my doctor to believe it's not a thyroid issue. Most of these symptoms are pretty standard post-partum fare and breastfeeding could explain the weight loss, but I would have expected the weight loss to level off by now. I've lost an additional 2.5 pounds over the past 3 weeks (and losing weight has always been a struggle for me). Should I request thyroid testing just to be sure, or is the lack of heart palpitations a pretty good indicator that this is just my body adjusting to life with a baby?
