I don't believe that there are any extra issues involved in taking the pill from the age of 18...I myself began to take it at age 16 (I'm now 25). As far as the side-effects, these will vary from person to person, and pill to pill. Read the pamplet that comes with every package of pills very carefully. It will let you know the risks, and possible side-effects for the particular pill that you are on. As far as unprotected sex is concerned, as long as you are sure that there are no STD (sexually transmitted disease) issues [**the pill does not protect you from these**], it is usually advised that you wait at least one full cycle, or full month of pills, as until this time, the pill is not working at its full effectiveness. If you have questions specific to your type of pill, many companies now offer a 1-800 # or website which you can go to directly to ask for advice.
