Accuracy of HPV typing test and treatment protocol

A recent colposcopy and biopsy revealed that I have LGSIL on my ectocervix - nothing found in the ECC. My last pap smear came back HPV negative (GYN said for ALL types of HPV they were testing for - not just high risk) + ASCUS. I had 2 ASCUS paps in the last year and one back in 1998 with normals inbetween. Based on the HPV negative status, my doctor suggests that I simply have repeat paps every 4 months to follow the LGSIL.

Since I did have what I believe was an episode of very small HPV warts about 4 years ago and since my partner had the same about 6 years ago (just prior to our relationship) I am not totally convinced that I am HPV negative. My doctor claims that even a single test is fairly accurate, especially since the HPV negative was found durring the time I had an ASCUS pap and LGSIL. Does this sound correct to the other GYN's here? Is a single HPV DNA test quite accurate? I just want to make sure I'm covering my bases here and doing adaquate followup. I like my cervix and since I want a couple of babies, I'd like to keep it in the best shape possible.
