Re: Fibroid and surgery?From: Abigail (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 2 Jun 2002 15:41:22 -0500 (CDT)
Kathy, There are all sorts of other remedies other than hysterectomy. First, you would want to have an endometrial biopsy to be sure that everything is, indeed, benign. Then do some thorough research on the internet for all the other ways of ridding yourself of fibroids other than hysterectomy, eg., myomectomy. If the endometrial biopsy is negative and the other symptoms are not too bothersome, then you can always just take a wait and see approach and have no procedures to rid yourself of the fibroid. You are, on average, only 8 years from menopause and your fibroid may shrink on its own accord as your estrogen depletes.
