49 and tiredFrom: Sarah (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 26 May 2002 18:15:10 -0500 (CDT)
Since they started at age 12, my periods have NEVER been regular at all. (They've been 4 to 9 weeks apart since age 12). Other than the irregularity, I've never had problems -- no PMS, no mid-cycle or heavy bleeding, no other problems. I got pregnant four times without too much trouble. Now I'm 49 and for the first time am having AWFUL pre-menstrual symptoms -- extreme fatigue and severe mood swings, mainly. My doc did blood tests & said I am still premenopausal, started me on 10 mg Prozac. It seems to really help with the mood problem, but I am still VERY TIRED for 10 days to two weeks before my periods, and during my periods -- in other words, for two or three weeks at a time. Other than the fatigue and mood problems, my periods are the same as they've always been -- which is to say irregular but a normal length (five days) and flow (medium). I've been exercising, sleeping fine, sex drive is good . . . but I hate feeling so tired so much of the time. For two weeks or so after my period, I feel totally fine, very good, so I know it's related to my periods. The Prozac seems to help with the mood problems; is there anything I can do for the fatigue?
