Re: Hysterectomy for PMSFrom: BJ (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 22 May 2002 20:20:36 -0500 (CDT)
Lisa, I'm no doctor but I think yours is wacked! Progesterone cures PMS, not causes it. 600 mg of progesterone is 30 times what your body would normally make! No wonder you had adverse effects, you were severely overdosing, not to mention the stress on your poor liver! I would suggest you use just natural progesterone cream which will give you a physiologically equivalent dose and see how that works for a few months, no other hormones. Surgery for PMS, no matter how bad, is malpractice in my book. You might also check into getting your hormone levels tested using the saliva method which is much more accurate than the blood tests. Also, check Dr. John Lee's website http://www.johnleemd.com and consider getting his book on perimenopause. Please think about this alternative approach. Surgery will only cause more problems and ERT will increase your risk of breast cancer. Estrogen should NEVER be taken without progesterone to balance it. Good luck.
