Yeast infection that won't go awayFrom: Amelia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 21 May 2002 18:09:22 -0500 (CDT)
Help! I have had a yeast infection for 3 months now. I am not diabetic or HIV positive. I don't have a lot of discharge, it's mostly a burning irritated feeling with a slight discharge. Started out with OTC medication, and it did not go away. I've been to my OBGYN 2 times to make sure it is yeast. He's says the wet prep shows some yeast, but not a lot. He says it must be a reistant strain, and has sent off for a culture, but says that this usually takes 4-6 weeks to come back. Does that sound right? Anyway, I have taken Diflucan 2 times a week for 2 weeks, and it did not clear it up. I went through 2 7 day terazol, and it did not go away. Last time at doctor, he used the gentian violet, and told me to do terazol 7 again, and then use terazol 2 times a week for 3 months, and hopefully that will clear it up. I just finished the last 7 day treatment last week, and 2 days later symptoms are back, so I will continue now with the twice a week, and hope it eventually clears up. As long as I'm on the medicine, the symptoms subside a great deal, but as soon as I stop, they are back. Dr. said he would get back to me when the culture comes back. I guess my question is- Could this be something else or could I have a very resistant strain? Also, should I continue with the regime my Dr. reccommended or insist on trying something else? I don't know how much longer I can take this. it is ruining my life.
