Kayla,

I'm sorry you had to go through this. I've been in your shoes. When I was 18, an ER Doc not only hurt me, but made me bleed. I was screaming too. He was incredibly rough and used a speculum that would have been appropriate for a horse! Even my GYN at the time went to the ER Docs Superior, as he was so upset by what happened! The ER Doc at the time was over the ER. He was demoted (I'm sure it wasn't just because of me. I am sure there were others that had this problem, or problems like this, with the ER Doc).

For me, exams were not really painful, but uncomfortable. If the speculum is too large, that can cause pain. If there is Endometriosis, this too can be painful. If the Dr. is not very gentle, this can also hurt.

Next time it hurts, ask the Dr. to reposition his fingers, make sure the speculum is a smaller one (but it has to be the adequate size for you). Of course, you also have the right to ask the MD to stop the exam.

Good luck to you.
