Infrequent and sometimes long periodsFrom: A. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 13 Apr 2002 22:58:29 -0500 (CDT)
I began menstruating at age 12 and was regular until age 16. Since then, I have become increasingly irregular. I am 21 currently and have a period an average of every 2 to 3 months. I had 5 periods total last year. Up until the last two periods, however, I would menstruate about 7 days. Then I had a period that started in December that lasted 28 days and was a light to medium flow. My next period started February 27 and I'm still on it (46 days right now). It has been spotting or a light flow for much of it, but it was moderate to heavy for about a week and a half. It is light right now. I saw a gynocologist about a week ago and had my first pelvic exam and some blood tests ran. The doctor said that everything look fine in the exam, but that it would take at least 2 weeks to get the blood tests back. While I'm waiting to go back and see her I just had a few questions. 1)What could be causing my erratic cycles? 2)Am I most likely ovulating infrequently or not ovulating at all? 3)What could be causing these extremely long periods? Thanks for any help.
