Excessive Menstrual Bleeding/High Platelet CountFrom: Mary (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 30 Mar 2002 11:15:11 -0600 (CST)
I know in advance that this is a complex question so if there is no possible answer I will understand. My hemoglobin is dropping and hematocrit is out of range low a long with other anemia type blood test results. The crazy thing is that my blood platelet count is high at 548 high end of range is 400-480. The question is what would possibly cause this besides error. The test was done manually because of so many of the tests being so out of range. It was confirmed a month later by a second test and everything that was out of range to start with was lower still by a few points and the platelet count had dropped to 520. RBC count was 3.96. I had some excessive menstrual bleeding which sent me to the doctor in the first place. The doctor has made a diagnosis of mixed anemia and is ordering additional tests to look for bleeding sites because the menstrual bleeding seems to have been controlled with 5 doses of progestin. Any ideas or suggestions that you may have that I could prepare myself emotionally with or reduce my anxiety about this would help. I know that it may not be as bad as it seems right now. Thanks in advance for considering this.
