Inside Lap stitches and hernia-another question.From: Anna (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 26 Mar 2002 22:03:01 -0600 (CST)
I had written about the lap assisted hysterectomy I had 6 weeks ago andthe pain and redness that just started last week with my bellybutton incision. I did see Dr as I started running a fever and got sharp pains in that area..Dr put me on antibiotic, but he seemed hesitant to do that, he wants me to stay with the heating pad, he says heat is what makes them disolve, which I had been trying to do over the weekend..that isn't really helping nor is the Aleve or Motrin that I have been taking for the pain. I am having a hard time bending down or stretching or wearing anything that will rub against it. Dr. put me on 250mgs of Levoquin, I think part of his concern with the antibiotic is that he had just had me on Cipro for a bladder infection (from the cath) 4 weeks ago. Isn't it kinda uncommon to get an infected stitch 6 weeks post, I thought they were usually totally healed by then and if not, shouldn't cause an infection. Also, Dr had me cough a couple times, he thinks there is a hernia..is this common after a laproscopic procedure? This was my first lap procedure..so I am not sure why a hernia would be present, I thought they were more common with multiple lap procedures. Also, aren't hernia's something you can see on the outside, don't they usually protrude enough that you can see or feel them? As for the antibiotics, I am severely allergic to most, I can only take the quinolone classed drugs or the azithromiacin classed antibiotics. Thanks for any info you can give me.
