Pam and everyone,

Take a look at: http://www.patientadvocate.org and there you will find the listing for the Insurance commissioner of your State. I recently had to ask them for some info. I was able to talk to them thru their 1-800 # even though I had sent an e-mail and I got a very quick response on the phone and also got some info in the mail.

My dr that is my OB/GYN is not on the ins plan that I currently have but she is working on trying to get on the ins plan. The thing is that we don't know how long it will be before she's on the list. So in the mean time I'm paying out of pocket to see her. The fee I pay was arranged by the billing person so that I can continue to see her.

My ins co has no control over me as far as my gyn care but they are aware of the fact that my dr is trying to get on the list. So while I wait for my dr to get on the list if I need certain procedures done and I want the ins co to pay for them we will have to use my PCP as my middle person. Also they told me that for out of network benefits with them if it is proved there is no dr in the plan that can take care of my medical needs then I can go out of network to continue to see her until she's on the list of providers.

The reason that I will not use a plan provider when it comes to gyn care is b/c of the extensiveness of my health problems and if I went to a plan provider for one of the problems they would send me to a specialist while the gyn dealt with the other female problems I have. The extensiveness of my health situation has forced me to make the decision to continue seeing my dr even though she's not on the plan yet.

My PCP is aware that I still see her even though I have this new ins plan.
