hydrosalpinx painFrom: Teri (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 28 Feb 2002 21:37:36 -0700
I am 45 and have had a hydrosalpinx on my left side for years. It has been causing pain intermittently for years. I had a laporoscopy several years ago during fertility treatment and the Dr. said she found filmy adhesions around my ovary and that my ovary was attached to the bowel and in a "ball". I have read that adhesions are inevitable in surgery and that they keep getting worse. I have concerns about surgery because: 1) I am afraid that surgery may be risky considering my bowel had once been attached to my ovary 2) the surgery may lead to hormonal problems and 3)the adhesions will only continue to get worse and lead to more surgeries and pain in the future. I have been doing a lot of research and unable to answer my concerns and questions: I would appreciate your help. My questions: 1. Is there any other treatment for hydrosalpinx other than surgery? For example, could progesterone be used to relax part of the muscular wall of the tube thus draining the tube and releiving pain? 2. Considering the possible adhesions would the prognosis in the future be more pain, more surgery? What is long term prognosis? 3. What are the hormonal connections? Does hydro respond to hormonal tx?
