Re: Husband dead set against it!,the husband repliesFrom: ams (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 27 Feb 2002 22:39:08 -0600 (CST)
You know, we are a bunch of strangers. Our input may be helpful, but have you talked with any of your close female friends or relatives that have had good experiences with a health care provider? If they have, maybe you could see their doctor (or nurse practitioner). You could also call and make a consultation appointment (which you may have to pay for but it would be worth it for peace of mind). You could meet the doctor, bring along a list of questions or concerns to discuss. You could have someone in the office show you an exam room--whatever you would need to feel comfortable. It wouldn't require a physical exam. I am an L&D nurse and work with a lot of different doctors with a lot of varying personalities. Some that I like to work with and that I hit it off with, a patient might find just "ok" while another that I find more quiet and maybe even having a less personable bedside manner, a patient might love. So, I think you "shop around" and make sort of an interview appointment. You find someone that you feel comfortable with. Then, you explain your situation. In our area, the practices are large with lots of doctors and busy offices. Maybe you could find a small practice with just one or two doctors that might have a more "cozy" feeling. Just a suggestion.
