It is recommended that a woman be on the pill for a full pack before it is effective. In the mean time, it is wise to use a back up form of birth control (such as condoms, foam, the sponge, etc). There are some chances that she could be pregnant, but can't tell you exact percentages. As far as if there is any way to prevent a child outside of an abortion: YES.... abstinence, protection and he morning-after pill. Good Luck.
