Hormones and acneFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netTue, 19 Feb 2002 21:04:53 -0600 (CST)
I am 40 and have struggled with acne all my life (I took accutane when I was 25 too). Mine is definately impacted by hormones as I have minimal problem when I am pregnant and when I took ortho-tricyclen... when I am off the pill I have terrible skin problems (face, back, upper arms, chest, neck). I had a baby in Sept 2001 and am on Micronor since I am breastfeeding. I am again getting acne on my face, neck, and back ... I am also planning for a hysterectomy in the next few months due to endo and chronic pelvic pain. Here are my questions. 1. What hormones play a role in this type of acne (too much progesterone, not enough estrogen etc.??)?? 2. After the hysterectomy will the HRT make it worse or better? It is very frustrating to be 40 and getting wrinkles and acne at the same time!!! Thank you for your time.
