Re: Doctors and Natural Progesterone-Dr. SiegelFrom: D.N. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 15 Feb 2002 17:53:39 -0600 (CST)
Hi Dr. Siegel, I just wanted to say that I am not a proponent of Dr. Lee. I have never read his book. I agree that from what I have read, nothing scientifically proves that progesterone cream works. However, I have been using a prescribed form (the pharmacy is not affiliated with by doc's office) for about four months. I am noticing a lessening of PMS. It had become very bad. I don't think it is a placebo effect, because I am a very skeptical person. I am perimenopausal with endo and ORS (after TAH/BSO.) I know when I am cycling because of mittelschmertz and endo pain in the same place whenever I have a cycle. It has increased my luteal phase from 9 days to about 11 days for the past two cycles. There is some concern from both myself and my doc that I am being exposed to a lot of unopposed estrogen because my luteal phase has shortened so much. Plus I have recently had more frequent cycles, thus causing more endo pain. We are hoping that it will help cut down on the proliferation of the endo. It may not work in the long run, but I don't have a lot of choices. I have already tried BCP's and oral progesterone. I had to stop because of the side-effects. I am not saying the progesterone cream will work for everyone, but it might be worth a try for some people. Especially in my circumstance when other alternatives have been exhausted. I do believe that if someone is going to try it, they should obtain an RX and have it filled at a reputable pharmacy and not off the internet. This is just based on my experience and respectfully submitted. Best wishes, D.N.
