Ovarian cysts, confused when told 1 had stripes. Need suggestions for ?'s to ask doc. before surgeryFrom: Wynona (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 5 Feb 2002 20:42:36 -0600 (CST)
4 months ago my cramps began to worsen monthly. I don't normally cramp during my cycle but the week before, usually every other month. In Oct. my period was 2 days, Nov. 3-4dys, Dec was maybe 5 days. January was 3 wks of severe pmdd, also the worst pain I have had since my cone-ization in '96. My period was 2 weeks late and it normally is only 3dys to 1 week late. I noticed the pain was different beginning around Nov, and when I had intercourse with my husband the pain was real bad afterwards(position/tilted uteris?) I went to my GYN and felt as though they were humoring me about the pain. My doc said that maybe I just FEEL the cycle more than other women, and that's probobly all that was causing my pain, my cycle beginning! My doctor ordered 2 types of ultrasounds, and found I had 2 cysts in/on my right ovary. She didn't say what kind of cysts, she kept asking if endometriosis was in my family. One cyst had fluid and stripes.? The cysts weren't positioned like mickey mouse ears, but it was the ovary itself. What does that mean? An hour later her PA called to say that my culture results showed I had an over growth of bacteria, Gardneralia? I've never heard of that. My doctor wants to schedule surgery ASAP to remove partial/all of my ovary. Is this necessary? She said that these cysts are common and surgery happens a lot. I will meet with her Friday. Any suggestions for questions I should be asking? Affraid all of this is what has prevented me from becoming pregnant. THANKS!
