I would think that taking one pill a day is better than having an outbreak. My husband had herpes Type II that he got from his mom at birth. We've been married for 7 years and I have never contracted it. (I've been tested MANY times, blood and vaginal swab) I love him for who he is, and him having herpes does not change that at all. You're right that a lot of people have it-about 80% have type I (oral). I'm not sure on the Type II data, but I assume it would be similar. Hope this helps. There are also herpes support groups. you can ask your doctor or search on the web. Take care, Maggie
