Re: [Birth Control] TubaligationFrom: Amy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 30 Jan 2002 10:47:18 -0600 (CST)
Hello Pam! I am 28 and have had Tubal Ligation performed (4 years ago this Feb 6th). I couldn't be happier, and it's so much easier than trying to remember to take a pill or go in for the shot.. and condoms were never my thing LOL. Anyways, there are a coupld different methods to tubal ligation. One is bands. I didn't have this procedure done, so am not able to give a lot of info on it. Another method is to cut and burn. This is the method I had done. They make a small incision right below the navel and insert laparascopic tools (cant remember the EXACT name of it). I also had another incision made right at the pubic hair line. The MD locats the tubes, snips it, ties it, then burns it. It is considered permanent (which I am sure you knew). The few complications that can arise are bowel perforations, bladder, and a coupld others. I did not have any of these. When the eggs are not able to go anywhere, they just re-absorb so to speak. As far as your insurance company, you might want to check with them.. or have your md do a pre-determination to see if it will be covered and at what percentage. Some women, to include me, have heavier and slightly more painful periods and cramping. I do not think this is true for all women.. and quite frankly, I think mine is caused from something the docs just havent found out about yet. I hope what I have said has helped you. If you need further questions answered, look up Tubal Ligation on any search engine, or check the archives here. Best of luck!
-- Amy
