Hi Celia, Birth control does not affect your ability to get pregnant in the future. Once a year for pap smear is sufficient for checkups. However, if you change sex partners, it's always a good idea to go in and have an STD screen no matter how long it's been since your last exam. http://www.yasmine.com might be of some help to you.
