Third kidney-possible problem?

I have been diagnosed with a duplicated left system (a third kidney) with a separate diluted ureter. After a cystoscopy my urologist found that the urethra of my third kidney goes into the bladder right above the bladder neck. He could not check if it there is either obstruction or reflux. (He will do a cystogram soon.) I am 27 years old and planning to have children in the near future.

As a child, I have had several UTI’s (until I was 4 years old), but I was never told about this. I did have a couple of UTI afterwards and a kidney infection three months ago.

My questions:

1. Could my current condition cause problems during pregnancy and delivery? 2. My urologist suggested hand-assisted laparoscopy to remove the third collecting system, which involves an incision of 3-4 inches long. Is this the normal procedure for this kind of surgery? Are there better methods? 3. How much is the probability that my other organs will get hurt during such a surgery? (After all, my primary concern is to have a safe pregnancy and healthy baby) 4. If I did this surgery, how long would I have to wait before getting pregnant?

I am in a good health, and this came on me from the blue sky. It is hard to go from making babies to getting a surgery. :)

Thank you for any of your answers, E.
