Re: Big E antibodyFrom: Jane (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 16 Jan 2002 15:29:42 -0600 (CST)
You're Rh+, the Rh system has more than one antibody in it - the one people talk about most often is D but there is also E and apparently you say you are also positive for antibody E. I'm not sure what problem they're talking about having with future pregnancies - if you're positive for the antibody, you're not going to make anti-E antibodies and cause neonatal isoerythrolysis...that problem occurs when the mom is Rh negative and the baby is Rh positive and the mom makes anti-D (or, sometimes, E) antibodies which affect the baby. If you were E negative and the baby was positive, there might be a problem. I would call your obstetrician or midwife and discuss this with them, because it sounds to me as if someone confused things somewhere along the line. Now, if you are antibody E *negative* instead of positive, as apparently some Rh D positive people are, then yes, if you had a baby who was positive, you could have a problem. But you can't do anythign about it and it is probably pretty unlikely as E isn't as often a problem as D is, so, I would try not to worry about it if that is the case. Take care, Jane
