I know there is more information in the archives on this, Amy, but from what I remember the Drs. saying, there are several mechanisms involved in preventing pregnancy with the pill...stops ovulation, makes the uterine lining inhospitable to implantation, and one other that I can't think of at this time.

As long as you have taken your pills as prescribed, not missing any, taking them the same time every day, used a back up method of contraception in the first month (Drs. recommend this even if the package insert says you are protected after one week...just to make sure nothing goes wrong), you should be okay.
