She has been taking 100mg daily for this length of time. At the time of prescription she was aked if she was planning a pregnancy to which she relied no - but was not informed that the effects of the OCP could be nullified. Surprise, surprise - she has just found out that she is approx 5mths pregnant. I am concerned that the only response she has received is that there is nothing to worry about - she is awaiting her first scan next week. Am I right in thinking she should be receiving advice about how this can have affected the foetus or am I worrying unnecessarily? Do you have any advice that I can give her? I have indicated to her about the potential risks involving skeletal developments and the effect on teeth - but I do not wish to go over the boundaries of being helpful to causing absolute terror! Is there any evidence to suggest there are any teratogenic properties affecting the foetus? I would be grateful for your comments.
