understanding fshFrom: CHRISTINE (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 2 Jan 2002 05:03:58 -0600 (CST)
Hi, In my previous post I referred to estrogen and it's function also factors which may affect levels. If estrogen may be lowered by strenuous physical activity and stress then in turn fsh would naturally increase, not decrease, wouldn't it?I have done some research on hormones and their function and have realised that nobody knows the answer.I have found that there are too many differing opinions which indicates to me that this whole topic is not clearly understood. The more I try to educate myself the more confused I become. The way I understand it is if menopause is 12 months with no menses then it cannot and should not be diagnosed before that time.I think that is why a woman can only say she has had her menopause after 12 full months have lapsed.I feel that doctors need to be a little more considerate and try to refrain from using the term menopause so lightheartedly when they really are not sure if that's what it is,especially in young women, this can be devastating.Missing periods for months at a time is amenorrhea is it not?Why say menopause? The functioning of the human body is complex and affected by numerous things including ones character, right?so hormones would be greatly affected, would they not?If stress can cause heart disease why wouldn't it be able to throw the hormones right out of whack? Please give your opinion on this.Thankyou. Christine.
