Re: [Birth Control] alternatives to birth control pills for irregular periods

I also heard back from a nurse practitioner who wanted to know what tests/meds had been tried, along with the nature of the bleeding. Here's what I know: The meds have been birth control with one episode of straight provera (that I took the first 5 days every month I think--it's been 10+ years since I tried that--the problem there was that the bleeding started on time, but often didn't end). As far as tests, there have been the regular exams and pap smears. The drs. I've seen have pretty much thought bcps were the answer, even tho I've expressed reservations about taking them indefinitely.

The bleeding is irregular in every sense. I could bleed for two months straight, then go months without a period, have a short one followed by a heavy long one a week later--you name it I've probably experienced it. I also bled for a year straight after the birth of my second child, even tho I was trying depo provera shots then. Surprisingly, despite a lot of warnings to the contrary and absolutely no way to track ovulation, I got pregnant three times with little/no effort.

Now that I've had my children, I'm looking for any alternative to bcps. I'll look into the Mirena Coil as well as talk to my drs. about other alternatives. If Dr. McIntosh could let me know the surgical options he was talking about, I'd like to hear them. My current ob/gyn refuses to discuss surgery and I've been looking around for another dr. Thank you for your help!
