Re: resistant UTIFrom: Hillary (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 4 Dec 2001 11:43:40 -0600 (CST)
Hi Dr. Wang, Thanks very much for your advice. Can I ask, what is the point of doing the cultures? I thought it was to confirm that there really was an infection present...but I've had so many UTIs by now that I can recognize them right away. Or is it to document exactly which strain of E. coli is causing the problem? And if so, how will that help? Also, just practically speaking, how can I get cultures done? My UTIs are usually so painful that it's as much as I can do to get to the pharmacy for antibiotics...I could never wait for an appointment with a doctor. Could I save a urine sample and take it to a doctor later for analysis? I have seen three urologists, all of whom concluded that my UTIs were due to sex and not to any existing abnormalities of the urinary tract. But I guess I'll keep trying. Thanks again, Hillary
