Here's just my opinion...you have a lot of things going on with you and lots of life decisions to make. You do not the added stress of having gossip, trust issues with a physician, etc. Sometimes it is hard to be strong and take control when your body is going hay wire, and the person who is supposed to help you seems to be betraying you in some way. This is what I suggest...first you worry about you and fight your fight to get and maintain good health. You do this with a doctor or doctors you trust and you feel you can communicate openly with and who you think will do reciprocate. If you are hearing information second hand, you don't really know what was said, in what context, etc. AND if your physician was discussing your situation with ANYONE else then that was a violation of patient-doctor trust. Maybe if you felt more comfortable, you could make an appointment and sit down with that oncologist and your sister-in-law and have that discussion together. Maybe you could approach the doctor with the attitude of..."I don't want to know stats...I want to know what you would recommend for your wife, daughter, mother, etc." THEN you need to take the advice and opinions of all your doctors and study and research what the recommendations are for women in your situation. If you are having a gyn cancer problem, then is a gyn-oncologist more specific and perhaps a bit more focused on your problem than a regular oncologist? I don't know the answer. Instead of focusing your efforts of the people who are not helping you, turn them on to what can help you! You do not have to be a victim. You fight for your answers, your dignity, your respect that you deserve. Good luck!
