stage 1, grade A ,Ovarian CancerFrom: Adrienne (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 2 Dec 2001 20:00:31 -0600 (CST)
This is my 3rd question in as many days. Sorry. My Oncologist talked to me about the option of chemotherapy -- how if I don't have treatment there's a 90% chance I'll be fine or a 10% chance that I have micrometastases (there's currently no indication that I have any cancer in me) and that it will eventually kill me. So I pretty much made the decision that I'd go for the chemo. Now I find out that my Gynecologist Oncologist, who removed my tumor, ovary, and fallopian tube, absolutely believes a patient in my situation should NOT go through chemotherapy. He feels I'm at such a low risk that it couldn't be reduced much more. And he feels that the risk of side effects might be greater than the risk of cancer. Mind you, he didn't tell me any of this. He told it to my sister-in-law who is a friend of his. To me, the patient, he didn't give any opinion except to tell me to see an Oncologist. I'm feeling very confused (not to mention more than a little angry that my Gynecologist did not communicate to me -- his patient -- what he felt comfortable communicating to his friend. So now I'm going to go see another Oncologist to get another opinion, and then what? Do I flip a coin? Please give me some direction. Thank you.
