Hysterectomy scheduled 11 days and family uriFrom: AMS (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 29 Nov 2001 20:11:02 -0600 (CST)
I am scheduled for TAH, burch and rectocele repair in 11 days, after more than a year of needing to show tx failure, get approval, get scheduled etc, etc. etc. Am age 50 with newly dx'd asthma, currently under control with high dose of flovent, good PEF and good PFT's. The kicker is, my 12 year old is just showing signs of a cold and I may also (scratchy throat, increased need to use bronchodilator for cough). Also, about 15 years ago, I had a 3 year bout of what was called probable rheumatoid arthritis. Started after end of one pregnancy and ended with beginning of next pregnancy. Over the next 12 years rarely had more than transitory, mild joint pain that would go away with extra sleep and a couple of days of ibuprofen, so I really doubted I ever had RA. Now, 3 weeks ago, I have started having joint pain in small joints of hands, feet, wrists and ankles. Morning stiffness, after 3 weeks of ibuprofen is nowhere near as profound as 15 years ago, but still present for an hour or so. I am due for pre-admission testing on Monday AM and scheduled for medical clearance appt.from internist Monday PM. (We have moved several times, so this is new internist with no knowlege of possible RA - this will be new news to him) Gyn nixed regional anaesthesia because she anticipates 3 hour surgery and says to long for me lie still (?!!?) My questions: Is the current situation going to derail the surgery date? What kind of preadmission testing will I need to have? Thank you
