Hi,

The probe is approximately 7 inches long. It is abit thicker where the transducer is at the top. They put a condom type thing on the probe and it is held down with rubber bands. They use a lubricant before inserting it. It is tiny bit uncomfortable when it is first inserted, but nothing to be worried about. If you have had a pelvic exam before, this is really not a big deal, honest. So don't worry and relax. If you are tense when they do the test, it makes it more difficult. You might want to tell the doc that is performing the test that you are nervous and they will take it slow.

The only discomfort (generally speaking )is if they push against something like a cyst on your ovary, but if you have had a manual pelvic exam, it really isn't much different. Most of the time the discomfort is very minor and fleeting. I have never had pain with it. The test takes about 5 minutes or so, probably less. It depends on what they are looking for.

I hope this helps eliminate your fears. It really is a very helpful test.

Best wishes,
