Here's a great link to learn more about Bartholin's cyst marsupialization, hope it helps to clarify the procedure for you. http://www.aafp.org/afp/980401ap/hill.html The marsupialization is done to open and drain the cyst that is created when the duct of the Bartholin's gland is blocked. The fluid accumulates because the gland isn't draining properly and the cyst is created. The actual Bartholin's gland is not removed during this procedure. I'm not a doctor, but after a lot of reading, I believe that the marsupialization procedure is our best bet to reduce the likliehood of reoccurence. Of course, reoccurence can happen after a marsupialization, but it's not likely. There are no guarantees in life ; )) You haven't done anything to make this happen, some women just are prone to them. I noticed mine during my first pregnancy 10 years ago and it has just been growing steadily since that time. I'm going tomorrow to have my marsupialization done. Good luck at your appointment on Thursday!
