First of all it doesn't sound like your paranoid, but incredibly bright. Since all form of birth control has failed least once, and since oral contraceptive pills to not prevent you from getting sexually transmitted diseases, I believe in the belt and suspenders approach if you really don't want your pants to falloff.

I think any time that there is a new type of discharge, especially in the sexually active individual, and examination is appropriate. I would have you see your gynecologist.
