[Birth Control] birth control and allergies???From: monica (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 5 Nov 2001 14:01:52 -0600 (CST)
ive always had allergies (year-round), but ive come to realize (i THINK) recently that my pill might be giving me trouble in that respect.... i was on orthocyclen for 3.5 years during which i had horrible allergies and had to be on allergy medication daily (i spent the first year getting hives every night, which my allergiest told me was due to environmental factors, dust and mold in my dormitory). HOWEVER, i went off the pill entirely for six months this summer, during which my allergy problems eased (almost disappeared, in fact) to the point where i no longer needed allergy medicine. i was amazed. i didnt think of the connection to birth control right away, but im starting to think that is why.... especially now that i switched to estrostep a month ago and not only are the allergies back, but i get hives every night again. this may very well be due to other factors (i cant tell) but it SEEMS that i am allergic to something in these birth control pills. has anyone ever heard of anything like this? does it seem possible? i went to the gyno and they told me they basically had no idea, and just switched me to estrostep.... if anyone has any thoughts on this, i would greatly appreciate it. thanks! monica
