cervical cancer, surgery, and fearFrom: anonymous@obgyn.net04 Nov 2001 13:51:21 -0500
I was diagnosed with cervical cancer in Oct of 1999. This in itself is a very scary thing to happen, but with me, the diagnosis was doubly frightening. You see my mother died from metastatic cervical cancer in 1988. She was diagnosed in Oct of 1986. She went through a partial hysterectomy and over the next 2 years was thought to be cancer free. Unfortunately, in Sept. 1988 the cancer came back and she died in Nov of that year. The next blow was my sister. She was diagnosed in Oct 1998 with cervical cancer. She also went through a partial hysterectomy. In April 1999, she had to go back into surgery for a radical, then in Oct she was placed in hospice. She died in Nov. 1999. So you see why I am so terrified. The two year anniversary of my Modified Radical Hysterectomy is coming up in DEC 2001. With my family history, I am so scared I can hardly cope. Now my mamma gram is showing an abnormality. The doctor says its nothing to worry about but how can I not worry about it! Can anyone please give me some reason not to be so scared? I don't know how.
