The effect of antibiotics on oral contraceptives is debatable, although for the sake of safety many clinicians still advise their clients to use a backup method when using antibiotics.

I would be more likely to attribute your breakthrough bleeding to being in the first three months of pill use than to blame the tetracycline. I think that time may make the point moot.

I suggest you call your dermatologist to talk about the fact that you decided tetracycline wasn't for you, and to discuss other treatment options, in conjunction with your gynecologist. Good luck!
