strep b..againFrom: alli (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 15 Oct 2001 22:00:34 -0500 (CDT)
I wrote several days ago about a recent diagnosis of having a +culture for strep b. I'm not pregnant, just complaining about a discharge. As I research what it means to have strep b I am confused about why I would be cultured for it...if it's a normal bacteria living in a good majority of us? Is it symptomatic? Why else would I have been tested? Dr. says it is not to be treated. I'm confused and a bit concerned. Why is it so dangerous to babies, but I can have it? Why have I never had it before? Why all of the sudden? I was told it is not transmitted by sex, food, air, hot tubs, etc. How'd it get in there? Thank you for responding, I didn't get enough answers on my own. Also, can this develop into a serious infection in me? I read on the CDC website that 20% of the adults that have it die?
